I believe the 70 396 cars, if ordered with the M22, got the 10 spline input and 27 spline output. Only the 70 Chevelle 454 cars got the fine spline input and 32 spline output. The original Muncie M22 was only close ratio. But there are several different gear sets available in an M22 gear cut from AutoGear. With a rear end around 3.31, probably the M22W (wide ratio) would work best. The gear spread between 3rd and 4th is improved over the Muncie standard wide ratio gear set but 1, 2 and 4 are the same.
